Jeanette Donelenko Flower Pictures
Jeanette Donelenko, Minot, formerly of Kief, went to her eternal home on Monday, June 21, 2021, and is now directing the angel's choir.
Jeanette was born July 20, 1939, in the Drake Hospital, the daughter of Ed and Ella (Dassenko) Kanko. She was raised on the family farm in the Ukrainian community of Kief and was very proud to be a full-blooded Ukrainian. She completed her education at Kief and Balfour. She received her Elementary Education and Music degrees from Minot State University.
Jeanette was united in marriage to Gerald Donelenko on June 22, 1958, at the Minot Evangelical Church. They made their home in Fargo, Williston, and Gering, Nebraska before returning to the Donelenko family farm where they built their home in which they lived for over 55 years. For a few years, they lived in Gering, NE, where Jeanette taught school, but would return to the farm for summer. In their retirement years, they wintered in Florida on the beach and returned to their farm every spring. They later moved to Minot in 2017 due to ill health.
Jeanette taught in many schools over the years including West Fargo, Minot, Butte, Drake, Sunflower and Mitchell in Nebraska, Karlsruhe, and finally Velva, where she retired. She was the Chancel Choir director at Drake Methodist, First Baptist, Scottsbluff, NE, and Immanuel Baptist Church in Minot. She served as the director of the Minot Prairie Rose Chapter of Sweet Adelines International. She was a guest conductor and judge at many music festivals over the years. Jeanette sang at many, many weddings and funerals over her entire lifetime. She formed many trios and quartets and even recorded an album with her dear Nebraska friends, a group they called the Triads.
Her talents didn't just lie in music. She was an avid gardener, wonderful cook, lifelong goose, deer hunter, and fisherwoman. A real crack shot! She loved the sun and enjoyed collecting seashells.
Jeanette had great love and admiration for her family. She was extremely proud of her six grandchildren and loved to teach them songs and anything science-related. She will be dearly missed by her loving family.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist church in Minot.
Her loving family includes , Jerry, her husband of 63 years; son Scott (Sharon) Donelenko of Gainesville, FL, daughter Tania (Ronnie) Novak of South Prairie, grandchildren, Taylor (Ty) Novak Nygaard, Grand Forks, ND, Jayd Novak and Layne Novak, South Prairie, Macey Donelenko, Mallory Donelenko and Ava Donelenko all of Gainesville.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
