Jean Swinton Berg, 94, Minot and former co-owner of B & B Drug, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2006, in a Minot nursing home.

She was born on July 27, 1912, in Carrington, ND, to William Henry and Frances Gray (Allen) Swinton. She was raised and educated in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School in 1932 prior to attending North Dakota Agricultural College now called North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

Jean married R.J. "Mike" Berg on August 28, 1938, at her parents' home in Carrington. They made their home in Carrington for a short time before moving to Minot in 1939. She and her husband owned and operated B & B Drug in downtown Minot from 1939 to 1971 when they sold the pharmacy and gift shop to their son Micheal Berg. Jean's main responsibility was bookkeeping from 1954 until 1964. They had resided at 1025 Harrison Drive for many years. Mike died on May 1, 1979. Jean continued to reside in Minot, but moved to Edgewood Vista in 1998 and to Trinity Homes in 2004.

Jean was a member of First Presbyterian Church - Minot where she served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and active participant in the United Presbyterian Women. She was a former member of the Shrine Auxiliary, PEO Chapter AW, PTA and served as a leader of the Cub Scouts and Brownies. Her hobbies and special interests included candle making, gardening, reading and studying her Bible, making desserts and salads, and sewing.

Her loving family includes: Children: Micheal (Janet) Berg of Minot, and Marian Culbertson of Orlando, Fl; Grandchildren: Paul and Mark Berg, and Michelle Schutt, as well as Craig and Robert Reister; Great Grandchildren: Adam and Ashley Schutt, Samuel, Mathew and Ella Jean Reister, Andrew and Alexander Reister, Devan Berg; Sister: Francis O'Shea of Santa Ana, CA, and Brother: Robert Swinton of Woodbury, MN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Jerry Berg, sisters: Edith and Mary Swinton, and brothers: William and Allen Swinton.

Funeral Service: Saturday, September 23, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
In lieu of flowers and plants memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund, Shrine Auxiliary, International Music Camp, or Trinity Homes.
