IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Mae
Tibbals
April 23, 1934 – January 28, 2023
We are sad to announce the passing of Janice Tibbals, Minot, formerly of Sawyer. She died on January 29, 2023 at the age of 88.
Janice Mae Brodell was born on April 23, 1934 in Max, ND to Melvin and Lena (Haverluck) Brodell. As a child she lived in Max, Missoula, MT and Warwick, ND where the family farmed and raised livestock. She graduated from high school in Tolna, ND.
Janice met and then married Bruce Tibbals in 1951. They made their home on a farm near Hamar, ND where she raised her family until 1965, when they moved to Sawyer. She worked for several companies until she opened her own clothing stores in Minot and Devils Lake. Also, she had food stands at the North Dakota State Fair and Norsk Hostfest.
Janice's dream of being in the beauty business was fulfilled when the Scissors Edge was established in 1985. She worked with her daughter Tammi "Boofer" until 2019 when she retired at the age of 84. She worked from open to close and enjoyed waiting-on and visiting with her customers. Janice was known for her hairstyle, makeup and especially her extra-long and colorful nails.
Janice was a hard worker and was generous to a fault. She still thought she should get a part-time job at age 84. Her favorite past-time and entertainment was going out to eat at restaurants. Just ask, and she was ready to go. She also liked to go on car rides with her friends. Janice loved animals and had several beloved dogs and cats. In her later years her cats were a great comfort to her especially "Snoopy". At home she liked watching TV especially FOX NEWS. In her earlier years, Janice liked to cook, read books, play piano, listen to music and shop. She was a fighter and fought to the end.
Janice was preceded in death by her father: Melvin Brodell, mother: Lena (Haverluck) Brodell, uncle: John Haverluck and Bruce Tibbals.
She is survived by her three daughters: Toni (Duane) Poynter, Terri (Bruce) Braun and Tammi (Keith Hartleib) Tibbals, grandchildren: Bremen (Vi and Ellie) Braun and Hunter (Stephanie) Braun, sister: Patty Papachek, brother: Jerry Brodell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Janice's request there will be no funeral service. Pastor Mike from Trinity Medical Center had a bedside service with her favorite songs and prayer. Memorials will be donated to her favorite causes in her name. A family graveside service is planned for the Spring.
