Janice Anfinson Smith, 74, Minot and formerly of Sidney, MT and rural Towner died on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in a Minot hospital.
Janice Jane Anfinson was born on August 24, 1937 in Rugby, North Dakota to Chester and Stella (Dean) Anfinson. She was reared on the Anfinson family ranch southwest of Towner. Janice was a lifelong learner, she had a 50 year career in nursing with degrees that included registered nurse, bachelor's degree in nursing and nurse practitioner.
Janice married C. Milton Smith on September 4, 1960 in Towner. They made their home in Kenmare, Sidney, Fargo and Minot where Janice and Milton were involved in the medical community. Janice received a "Women of Distinction" award in 2004 for community service. She has worked in many areas of medicine; however, she was most well known for her service to the uninsured.
Janice was an active member of PEO Chapter AG and had been involved with Sunday School and music in various churches. Though medicine was her passion, her family was her life. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, friend and homemaker. Her hobbies revolved around the fine arts.
Janice's loving family includes her husband of 51 years Dr. C. Milton Smith; children: Dr. Craig (Janice) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD, Jill (Craig) Foss of Cour d'Alene, Idaho, and Amber (Doug) Moorhead of Minot; grandchildren: Hunter Foss, Aubrey, Caleb and Logan Smith; Sky and Cade Moorhead; siblings: Judy Leggett of Independence, MO, Jeanette Brothers of Minot, Chester "Chuck" Anfinson of Casper, WY and Jackie Tonnessen of Towner and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, grandson: Jesse Foss, nephew: Greg Cook, an infant niece in the Brothers family and brother-in-law: Monte Cook.
Celebration of Jan's Life: Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Hope Lodge at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis or the Janice Smith Nursing Scholarship Endowment Fund at Minot State University.
