Janice LaVonne Klimpel, 83, Minot, died Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in a Minot Assisted Living Center surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Janice was born August 3, 1936 in Minot, North Dakota the daughter of Roy and Haldis (Jensen) Peterson. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot Model High School in 1954. She worked outside of the home as a telephone operator, handed out food samples at the grocery store and also worked at Herberger's.

Janice was united in marriage to Gerald "Jerry" Klimpel on December 28, 1956. They made their home in Minot where they raised their four children. Janice was a very creative person that had many talents. She was a wonderful seamstress making a number of clothing items for her children and herself. She made Christmas stockings for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also shared a woodworking hobby with Jerry. The couple was very particular about their work and attended many craft shows. Jerry died March 5, 2002.

Janice had a passion for volunteering and helping others. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, where she actively served on the Altar Guild committee, State Fair Stand committee, Funeral serving committee and made Sweet Soup with others for the Hostfest. She loved cooking and took many meals to friends and family in times of need.

Janice had a special group of friends that did many activities together through the years. They hosted birthday parties for each other, took trips together and were a great support system for themselves and their families. She and Jerry were proud supporters of their children and grandchildren's extracurricular activities.

Janice was a unique individual that had a great spirit.  She always found a way to do things that were important to her, even if she had been told they weren't possible.  She touched the lives of many people and made the world a better place in her own small way.  Janice was an exceptional mom and grandmother who was always there for her family.  Mom - you will be missed.  We love you!

Her loving family includes, children: Susan (Greg) Johnson, Minot, Mike (Deb) Klimpel, Minot, Sally (Brad) Sandy, Bismarck and Mark (Melissa) Klimpel, Bismarck; grandchildren to include: Lyndsi (Ty) Engstrom, Chad (Alicia) Johnson, Holly Johnson; Elizabeth (Chuck) Seil, Blair (Nicole) Sandy, Brock (Faith) Sandy, Bryan (Lauren) Sandy; Kendra and Christopher Klimpel, Nichole (Clarence) Lundeen, Joseph Abrahamson; Whitney, Morgan and Olivia Klimpel; great- grandchildren to include: Alvi & Ari Engstrom, Brody, Chloe & Jersey Johnson; Peyton & Londyn Seil, William & Ava Sandy and Jack Sandy; Emma Babyak, Gage & Cody Petras, Blake, Beau & Baylee Lundeen and Reed Abrahamson; sisters, LaDonna Stonerook, Arvada, CO and Judy (David) Klovstad, Murphy, NC; Jerry's supportive family; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; brothers, James and Jerome Peterson; and brother-in-law, Tom Stonerook.

Celebration of Life service: Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. The service will be available via livestream at www.bethanylutheran.tv
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, December 20th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to Bethany Lutheran Church or organization of the donor's choice.
