Janice Hines, 78, Minot, formerly of Glenburn and Bellevue, WA, died Friday, September 11, 2020 in a Minot hospital.
Janice was born August 12, 1942 in Minot, ND to Ernest and Garnet (Seideman) Preabt. She grew up in Glenburn, where she was active in 4H and nurtured her love for horses and taking great pride in her very own Palomino horse Pindy. She graduated from Glenburn High School in 1961. She attended the Trinity School of Nursing Program in Minot and graduated in 1964 where she became a registered nurse.
Janice was married to Melvin Hines Sr from 1963-1970. They lived in Seattle for a couple years before moving to Bellevue, WA and were blessed with a son and daughter.
Janice worked at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue for over 28 years of her life. She started her career as an OB nurse, worked as an ER trauma nurse and finally transitioned to an OR surgical recovery nurse where she truly found her passion. Janice was very knowledgeable and meticulous in her work where she often helped train and guide others. Janice returned to North Dakota in 1997, calling Minot home. She worked part-time for a few years as a nurse for an outreach oral/dental surgeon that supplied services to the reservations in North Dakota. She retired in the early 2000's.
Janice had a tenacious but caring spirit, like many other Leo's. She adored her cats very much; Stormy of 23 years and Tag of 10+ years. She was very independent and could be stubborn to a fault. Janice was a private person but was still approachable with a good sense of humor. She took great pride in helping and caring for others especially when it came to medical advice. She was an avid collector, enjoyed giveaways and playing games of chance, entering contests, game shows, travel, camping, and prospecting for gold and semi-precious gems. Janice was an artist who liked to create 3-dimensional art for work-related contests, often placing 1 st -3 rd place. She was skilled with a brush and a pen with high aspirations to be like Grandma Moses. Janice wanted to write several books about her life and create illustrated books on animal life. She was brave, tenacious and a survivor, as well as, incredibly generous especially to those in need. She will be deeply missed.
Janice is survived by her son Melvin Hines Jr. and daughter Laura Garnet, both of Washington; grandchildren Kallista and Preston Garnet; brothers John and Duane Preabt of North Dakota and nephews Tim and Shawn Preabt.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; Ernest and Garnet Preabt and brother Jerry Preabt.
Celebration of Janice's Life will be held on 9/20/2020 at 1pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
