Janet Neuenschwander, 86, Minot and formerly of Rugby died on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 in a Minot hospital.
Kathryn Janet Lyngstad was born on February 20, 1924 in Rugby to H.O. and Nettie (Gjerdingen) Lyngstad. She was raised in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1942. She graduated from North Dakota State University in 1946 with a degree in home economics.
Janet married Norman Neuenschwander on December 28, 1947 in Rugby. They made their home in Fessenden where she taught home economics. The family moved to Minot in 1949. She resumed her career in education in 1969 teaching at Minot High School until 1983. In addition to teaching Janet was a local television personality with interview and home economics segments on the Cis Hadley and Jack LaLane television shows on KXMC TV. Norman died on January 4, 1999.
Janet was a member of First Lutheran Church Minot and the Mount of Olives Lutheran Church in Phoenix where she got great satisfaction from volunteering at the church food pantry. She was a member of PEO Chapter G, Delta Kappa Gamma organization, American Association of University Women and was a volunteer with the Reach to Recovery Program for breast cancer survivors. A proud Norwegian, Janet was a member of the Scandinavian Heritage Association and organized and emceed the Hostfest Bunad Style Show for many years. She especially enjoyed playing bridge and needlework.
Janet's loving family includes her children: Kent Neuenschwander of Somerset, NJ, Karen (Edwin) Eakin Petoskey, MI and Eric (Cindy) Neuenschwander of Lakeville, MN; "adopted son" Mike Kaminski of Lake Tapps, WA; grandchildren: Janae and Samuel Neuenschwander; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepmother: Amy Lyngstad, sister: Valborg McFair and brother: Harold Lyngstad.
Funeral Service:
Monday, November 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment
will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery - rural Mandan
.
Visitation:
Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Minot.
