Jan Christenson, 58, Minot, died Sunday, July 15, 2012, in a Minot hospital.

Jan was born February 5, 1954, in Minot, ND, the daughter of Frank and Teresa (Feller) Bachmeier. She was raised in Minot and attended school at Bishop Ryan.

As a young adult, she was employed for a number of years as a bookkeeper by Westland Oil Company of Minot. Jan fell in love with and married Bruce Christenson on April 28, 1979. They made their home and raised their family in Minot where she was employed by Bremer Insurance as a customer service representative specializing in the business side of the industry. She very much enjoyed her position at Bremer Insurance but due to ill health was forced to retire after 33 years of faithful service in 2010.

Jan was a member of Metigoshe Lutheran Church. She was also involved in the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Minot, serving as treasurer for many years and was instrumental in coordinating efforts for a center to be started in Bottineau.

Jan simply enjoyed the outdoors and all it encompassed. Bird watching, gardening, pontoon rides, conquering her fear of tubing and simply spending time with her family over a campfire at the cabin were times of enjoyment. She could also be found cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and enjoying old movies or reading a book.

Her family is her legacy. Jan was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, faithful sister and a friend that could simply be counted on. The qualities will be missed but never forgotten by all who shared in her life.

Jan's loving family includes her loving husband of 33 years, Bruce Christenson, Minot; children, Robert (Kerri) Christenson, Los Alamos, NM, Steve (Jessica) Christenson, Minot and Brad (Tracy) Christenson, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Benjamin Christenson, Jasmine and Chase Christenson and Allyson and Ashton Christenson; sisters, Irene Bachmeier, Minot, Rose Ann Wilson, Germantown, WI and Elaine Berntson, Minot and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Edward and Daniel Bachmeier.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Metigoshe Lutheran Church, Lake Metigoshe, ND.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to a non-profit organization of the donor's choice.
