James Allen "Red" White, 88, lifelong Minot resident died on Friday, July 29, 2016 in a Minot nursing home.
James was born on February 23, 1928 in Grand Forks, ND to James E. and Marion Evelyn (Berdahl) White. He was reared and educated in Minot and received his GED while serving in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February of 1945 and served aboard the USS Commencement Bay until his honorable discharge in February of 1949. He returned to Minot where he was employed as a delivery driver for Magic City Beverage.
James married Yvonne Turner on September 4, 1950 in Minot. They made their home in Minot where he was employed by Magic City Beverage and the Minot Elks Lodge prior to beginning a 35 year career with the U.S. Postal Service. Then, he was employed as a real estate agent by Coldwell Banker First Minot Realty for twelve years. Yvonne died on May 13, 1990. Jim had continued to reside in Minot most recently at Edgewood Vista. Jim was among the last surviving World War II veterans and was very proud to be able to go on a 2010 Honor Flight to the WWII Monument in Washington D.C.
Jim was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie and Moose Lodge all in Minot. He volunteered at Trinity Hospital and held many leadership roles in the local and state organizations (including President) of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He especially enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, three -cushion billiards and attending Minot High School sporting events.
Jim is survived by his children: James White of Moorhead, Bruce White of Minot, Kelly White of East Grand Forks and Kevin (Tammy) White of Minot; seven grandchildren: Brigid Boyle, Paige White Hodges and Travis White, Chance and Dylan Lane, Kaylie and Kelsie White; three great grandchildren: Jerit and Jordan Hodges and Paisleigh White; brothers: Gary (Kathe) White of Blue Springs, MO, and Donald (Mary Alice) White of Prescott, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend and companion Lucile "Babe" Broyles.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother: Robert and sister: DiAnn Burns.
Celebration of the Life of James White: Thursday, August 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church - Minot.
