James Laughlin Lowe, 39, Minot area floral designer, died on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Roger Maris Cancer Center of Sanford Hospital in Fargo. He was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma less than two weeks earlier.

James was born on October 12, 1978 in Minot to Philip and Jennifer (Ross Janes) Lowe. He attended Sunnyside Elementary School, Jim Hill Middle School, graduated from Minot High School in 1997 and from Tulane University- New Orleans in 2002.

His passion was always the floral design part of the family business, Lowe's Floral and Garden Center. During and after college he worked for several floral shops in New Orleans. Following graduation, James returned to Minot for a year while he studied and tested for his accreditation with the American Institute of Floral Designers. After being accepted into membership with AIFD he worked for three years as the head designer of a floral shop in Roanoke, VA. He returned to Minot in 2007 to manage the floral shop at Lowe's.

James was active in the LGBT community, North Dakota State Floral Association, American Institute of Floral Designers as well as working with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center and the Second Story.

James is survived by his father and stepmother: Philip and Karol Lowe of Minot and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Jennifer Lowe and grandparents: James and Clarice Lowe as well as Fred and Barbara Janes.
