James "Jim" Ehlers, 68, Minot, formerly of Kenmare, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Jim was born May 25, 1946 at Minot, North Dakota the son of Earl and Deloris (Sandstrom) Ehlers. He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1965. He entered into active duty service in 1966 with the U.S. Air Force and honorably served his country in Thailand, Okinawa and Vietnam. He finished out his 20 years of service at Minot Air Force Base, retiring in 1986.
Jim was united in marriage to Kathleen Jayne in 1969. Upon completion of this military service the family moved to Cook, Minnesota and later California before returning to Minot in 1991. Kathy died in 1992. Jim then married Bernadette Martin on August 18, 1995 at Minot. They made their home in Kenmare, where he was employed at the Kenmare Nursing Home as the Activities Director for the past 15 years.
Throughout the years, Jim was active with his children as a Cub Scout leader, restored a Model-T car which he often drove in the State Fair Parades and enjoyed woodworking.
His Loving family includes, wife, Bernadette, daughter, Becky (George) Jarman, Plentywood, MT, son, Rob Ehlers, Sawyer; sister, Shelly (James) Daniels, Minot; grandchildren, William Jarman, Daimhin Jarman, Jabin Ehlers and Zailey Ehlers; step-son, Steven Szawlowski, New York; step grandchildren, Timothy, Alexandra and Christopher.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Kathy, and sisters, Patricia Dodgen and Darlene Lovo.
Funeral Service:
Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Veterans section of Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation
: Sunday from noon - 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot
