James Edward Auton, 71, Minot, died Monday, November 30, 2020 in his home.

James was born August 23, 1949 in Kankakee, Illinois to James H. and Marjorie (Munden) Auton.  He spent most of his youth in Evansville, Illinois and graduated from high school in 1967.

James enlisted into the US Air Force in 1968.  He served his country honorably as a jet engine mechanic until his discharge on October 12, 1975.

Following his service to his country, James lived in Minot.  He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and especially loved the thrill and suspense of a winning scratch off lottery ticket.

James is survived by his children Cheryl Roth of Indiana, Amanda (Thomas) Christensen of Idaho, James S. (Jennifer) Auton of Morganton, NC; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister Janet (Wilfreda) Burga of Georgia and brother Donald 'Donnie' Auton both of Georgia; two nephews; longtime companion Ruth Butterfield and her children Tammy (Tony) Zeltinger, Minot and Adam (Michelle) Butterfield, Watertown, SD, , Cheryl Haugerud and their families.

James was preceded in death by his parents.
