Obituary

Jacquelyn Ann Stordal , 77, of Minot died on Sunday, 17 July 2011 in Trinity Hospital.

Jacquelyn was born on June 8, 1934 in Minot, ND to Lenora (Peterson) and Albert Fix. She grew up in Devils Lake and Minot. Jacquelyn graduated from Minot High School in 1952 and then attended the University of North Dakota from where she graduated on 1956. In addition to her formal education, Jacquelyn received corporate management, leadership, and director's training through the Girl Scouts of America, the Minot Area Personnel Association, and the Delta Zeta Sorority respectively.

After graduating from the University of North Dakota, Jacquelyn moved to Minneapolis, MN and assumed a role as an assistant promotion and sales manager for the Burgess Publishing Company.

Jacquelyn married Gerald Stordal at First Lutheran Church in Minot in 1957 and continued to live and work in Minneapolis while her husband Gerald finished Dental School at the University of Minnesota. Jacquelyn then moved to Tacoma, WA where her husband Gerald completed his dental residency at Madigan Hospital as a member of the United States Army Dental Corps. Jacquelyn then moved to Bad Tolz, Germany where she lived from 1960-1963 with her husband Gerald who was still serving in the United States Army Dental Corps. It was during this time in Germany that Jacquelyn gave birth to a daughter, Lori Ann (Stordal) Herauf. Jacquelyn and her husband Gerald then moved to Fort Bragg, NC where her husband finished his service in the United States Army Dental Corps. Jacquelyn and her husband Gerald then moved to Chicago, IL where she worked in the editorial department of Encyclopedia Britannica while her husband Gerald completed graduate studies. Following completion of her husband's graduate studies, they moved back to Minot in 1966. It was in Minot that Jacquelyn gave birth to her son, Leif Stordal.

Jacquelyn had a very strong sense of community and believed that it was important to support causes and organizations that benefited individuals as well as the community. This sense of community was also gained at a broader level as Jacquelyn greatly enjoyed travelling to numerous parts of the world to experience numerous and varied cultures. Accordingly, Jacquelyn held an endless string of volunteer and leadership positions in numerous community organizations. One organization in which Jacquelyn was particularly active was the Northwest North Dakota Girl Scout Council where she served in numerous roles that included Leader-Neighborhood Chairman, First Vice-President, and President. Jacquelyn was also awarded the Thanks Badge. Jacquelyn was also active with the Minot Commission on the Status of Women, the 41st District Republican Party, the Minot Chamber of Commerce, the ND Diabetes Association, the Women's Symphony League, PEO, the ND Dental Association, Concordia College, the Minot Area Council of the Arts, the Minot Symphony League, the Minot Public Library Board, the United Way, the Minot Art Club, and Friends of the Library. Jacquelyn was also a Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary International.

Jacquelyn's loving family includes her husband: Dr. Gerald Stordal of Minot, her children: Lori Herauf of Tulsa, OK and her son, Leif Stordal, of Issaquah, WA, and her granddaughter: Alyssa Herauf of Tulsa, OK.

Jacquelyn was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial Gathering: Thursday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the Heritage Room on the upper level of the Minot Public Library.
