Irene Inez Marum - Gieser, 96, Minot and formerly of Kenmare died on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in a Minot healthcare center.

Irene was born on January 13, 1913 in Kenmare, ND to Charles and Sadie (St. Croix) Larson. She was reared and educated in Kenmare and Superior, WI. The family returned to the Kenmare area and as a young adult she assisted on the family farm.

Irene married Helmer Marum on November 20, 1933 in Minot. They made their home in the Kenmare area from 1936-1943. The family moved to Minot in 1943 and she was employed at Sunshine Grocery and by the Ward County Bookmobile for six years. Helmer died in 1972. Irene married Martin Gieser on April 23, 1983 in Minot. They made their home in Minot at 424 23rd St. N.W. for many years. Martin died on April 5, 2000. Irene had continued to reside in Minot most recently at 3212 7th St. S.W.

Irene was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and its ladies mission group. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and especially enjoyed crocheting, baking, bowling, playing cards and spending time with her friends and family. Her family will remember her for her laughter, great cooking and the love she shared.

Irene's family includes a daughter-in-law: Beverly Marum of Minot and a son-in-law: Dyron Howell of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren: Daniel (Lori) Howell of Lincoln NE, Darin (Lynn) Howell of Minneapolis, David (Shelly) Marum of Berthold, Roger (Vonnie) Marum of Whitefish MT and Allyn Marum of Berthold; six great grandchildren: Beth (Michael) Suelzle of St. Louis, Sarah Howell of Moorhead, Brandi Marum and Jarrit Marum both of Minot, Scott Marum of Kalispell MT and Shayne Marum of Whitefish; five great great grandchildren: Tucker Johnson, Chloe Marum, Caelin Marum and Grace Marum and Joshua Suelzle; brothers: Raymond Larson of Minot and Clifford (Delores) Larson of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son: Marvin Marum (7/4/86), daughter: Deloris Howell (5/27/84), sisters: LaValace Clouse and Hazel Carlson and brothers: Russell and Norman Larson.

A Celebration of Irene's life will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Immanuel Baptist Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, ND.
