Irene B. Goosen, 91, Minot, formerly of Velva, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 in a Minot Nursing Home.
Irene was born February 27, 1918 at Velva, North Dakota, the daughter of August and Ida (Johnson) Sveund. She was raised and educated in the Velva area and graduated from Velva High School. She received her degree in education from Minot State College and taught at country schools in North Dakota.
Irene was united in marriage to Raymond Goosen in 1942 at Riverside, California. They lived at California, while he was stationed as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force. They returned to Minot, where she was employed with Minot Public Schools as a special education teacher at Ramstad Junior High School and Central Campus. She retired in 1983.
Irene was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was once active with a Women's Circle group. She was also active with a Seniorcize exercise group, Minot Business and Professional group. She enjoyed playing cards and reading.
Irene's family includes: Son: Michael (Gail) Goosen, Bloomington, MN, granddaughter, Amanda Goosen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, John and Robert and sister, Alta.
Funeral service:
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation:
At her request, there will be no reviewal, however friends may sign a memorial register book one hour prior the service in the funeral home.
