Ione Metz , 87, Minot, formerly of Garrison, and longtime businesswoman, died Sunday, November 10, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Ione Marie was born on February 5, 1937, to Frederick and Ida (Arlt) Reimann. She was the eldest of five children and treasured her youth growing up on the farm in McLean County near Garrison, North Dakota. At a young age, Ione assisted on the farm. While bringing in the cows for evening milking, she took joy in gathering all the wildflowers she could find for her family to enjoy in the house. She helped her parents care for her younger siblings, a responsibility she took seriously. Ione learned to cook at a very early age, preparing meals for her brothers and sisters. The summer months were special as all of her aunts, uncles, and cousins would gather for a picnic every Sunday at the Missouri River, sometimes camping overnight. Ione and family were entertained with boat rides, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors.

Ione attended school in Garrison and graduated from Garrison High School in 1955. While in high school she was employed with Allison Photography Studio. Following graduation, she was the office manager for the McLean County Independent.

Ione was united in marriage to Rollin "Rollie" Metz on April 13, 1958 at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. The couple lived there for a short time before moving to Minot. Together, Ione and Rollin were partners in several retail beverage establishments. In 1968 they purchased the 13 Club in downtown Minot; later, they moved the 13 Club into the former Eagles Club building, renaming the business The Torch Light. They also owned and operated Red Dog Saloon/Grainhopper Lounge, Fridays (which became The Rockin' Horse Lounge and Bottle Shop) and Fireside/Saturdays Club. In addition, they owned the Sandman Motel, the Minot 3-minute Carwash, several oil companies, and a fur business. Following Rollie's death in 1998, Ione continued to manage their businesses, including rental properties in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ione's hobbies included baking and cooking delicious treats and meals for her family and friends whom she thoroughly enjoyed entertaining, following the stock market, and boating. Her yacht became her summer home for many years at the Lake Sakakawea State Park Marina. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, they brought youthful energy into her life. Ione's travels took her all over the world; the Caribbean, South America, Japan, England, the Baltic countries, most of Europe and of course Norway.

Ione was a member of the Ward County Homemakers and Green Valley Bridge Clubs, First Lutheran Church Women, Minot Country Club, Moose Lodge, and the Dam Yacht Club.

Her loving family includes her daughter and son-in-law: Leslie (Chuck) Barney; grandchildren: Christopher (Katelynn) Barney, Kelsey (Zach) Aller, Danielle Metz; great grandchildren: Nellijun Kaseman, Maisie Aller, Mila Barney, Finn Aller, and Olivia Barney; her sister Sharon (Arnold) Briggs; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Rollin; Son; Rollin Bradley Metz; parents; siblings: Marilyn Engel, Richard Reimann, and Bernald Reimann.
