Ila was born April 16, 1930, in Hartland, ND to Albert and Elizabeth (Birkeland) Erickson. She was raised and educated in Hartland.
Ila was united in marriage to Roy Axness on November 29, 1947 in Hartland. They lived on the Axness family farm near Carpio where they raised small grains, cattle and chickens. They moved into Carpio after many years on the farm, but continued its operation until they retired in 1982.
Ila was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church and was a member of the church choir. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and 4-H leader for many years. She had a green thumb, raising a large garden every year and sharing the produce of her passion with family and friends. Saturday mornings were filled with the smells of fresh baked buns and bread, often taken to the field for lunch or shared at large family gatherings that she hosted year after year. She enjoyed crocheting and spent many nights at the bowling alley with her husband, enjoying singles and couples' leagues.
Roy died in 2002 and Ila became a resident of the Good Samarian Society in Mohall in 2006. She will be missed by all who shared in her life, but fondly remembered for the legacy of love and family she left with us.
Her loving family includes, children, Sheryl (Burnell) Moen, Upham, Gary (Nicolette) Axness, Fargo, Marilyn Kvamme, Minot, Joel (Susan) Axness, Minot, Michael (Dori) Axness, Carpio and Leanne (Brian) Axelson, Minot; grandchildren, Louisa (Aaron) Rogers, April Moen, Amber (Trevor) Aakre, Cody Axness (fiance Mandy Smith), Jessica Axness, Jason Axness, Jerod Axness, Natasha Thorson, Ashley Axness (fianc, Seth Sparrow), Brady Axness, Amanda (Eric) Neshem, Clinton Axelson, Melissa Axelson and Austin Axelson; great-grandchildren, Hannah Heisler, Samuel Aakre, Nicholas Aakre, Isabella Rogers, Abygail Rogers, Brooklyn Neshem and Madison Neshem; sister-in-law, Florence Erickson, Minot and numerous nieces and nephews.
