Obituary

Hugo Ferd Fursteneau Jr. , 85, Minot, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in a Minot hospital with his loving family at his side.

Hugo was born on December 18, 1932 in Williston, ND to Hugo and Stella (Wold) Fursteneau. He was reared in Fairview, MT and Upham, ND and was educated at Deep, ND and Upham prior to graduating from Minot High School in 1950. Hugo was drafted into the U.S. Army in April of 1953 and served until his honorable discharge in April of 1955.

While on leave from the Army, Hugo married Joanne Ziegler on December 30, 1953 in Minot. Following his discharge from the military, they made their home in Minot and Hugo attended Minot State College. He graduated in 1962 with a degree in secondary education with a concentration in the Social Sciences. In addition to attending college, Hugo was employed at the Westlie Motors Body Shop eventually becoming the Body Shop Manager. He served as Manager of the Fisher Motors Body Shop from 1966 until 1976 prior to becoming the owner of Bee Line Service in 1976. He sold that business in 1990 and was employed by Wal-Mart for three years until he retired in 1993. He had continued to reside in Minot.

Hugo was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and American Legion Post #26 all in Minot. Also, he served on the Boy Scout Council for four years and was a member of the City Transportation Committee for two years. Highlights in his life were spending summer weekends at Lake Metigoshe and working security in the race car pits of the Daytona 500 Raceway in 2000. He especially enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.

Hugo is survived by his wife of 64 years Joanne; children: Douglas Fursteneau of Minot and Darla (Eric) Roder of Langdon; five grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan, Jessica, Bo and Blake; four great grandchildren; sister: Sheryl (Bill) Sharp of Tempe AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his faithful dog: Davie.

Hugo was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Debbora Allen and an infant brother.

Celebration of the Life of Hugo Fursteneau Jr: Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens - Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Souris Valley Animal shelter or the Alzheimer's Association.
