Herman Fettig, 85, Minot, died Friday, January 03, 2020 in a Minot hospital.
Herman Lloyd Fettig was born on March 6, 1934 to Joseph and Mary (Keller) Fettig in Linton, ND. He was reared and educated in Linton, ND where he attended school through the eighth grade. He then attended and graduated from Brunnerdale Seminary High School in Canton, OH in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April of 1953 and served until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in April of 1956. While in the Marine Corps he was a decorated marksman and received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. Following his discharge, he resided in Aberdeen, SD and Seattle WA.
Herman was united in marriage to Velma Anderson on April 23, 1960 in Seattle, WA. They made their home in Seattle until moving to Aberdeen where he attended Northern State University and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1963. He was employed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in Aberdeen, SD from 1963 until 1975, in Pierre, SD from 1975 until 1977 when he was transferred to Minot, ND. Following his retirement in 1990, he was employed as a real estate agent in Minot for two years.
Herman was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Sertoma Club and Exchange Club. He enjoyed hunting, reading, walking and golfing , serving actively in the GEM Golf League at Souris Valley Golf Course.
Herman's loving family includes his wife of 59 years: Velma, Minot; son: Todd (Lesley) Fettig, Minot; grandchildren: Joelle and Sydney; step grandchildren: Max, Madison and Hunter and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Leo, Raymond, William and Joe Fettig; sisters: Dolores Will, Lillian Reich, Florence Cutler and Patricia Schwartz.
Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel - Minot.
Graveside Service: Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation: Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

floor at Trinity Hospital for all of the special care and concern during Herman's thirteen day stay in the hospital.
