Herbert Otto Gliege, 82, 2024 9th St. N.W. - Minot, formerly of Glenburn and former longtime Max area farmer died on Saturday, August 19, 2006, in his home.

Herb was born on April 1, 1924, on the family farm in Newman Township of Ward County near Max, ND to Christ and Marie (Schoenwald) Gliege. He was raised on the family farm and educated in rural schools near Max. As a young adult he assisted with the operation of the family farm. He assumed control of the family farm in 1946 and raised small grains and Hereford cattle. Herb married Doris Newnam Anderson on June 12, 1981, in Mohall and they made their home in Glenburn. He retired from farming in 1986 and they moved to Minot in 1989.

Herb was a longtime member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau. His hobbies included listening to music especially polka and big band music and reading. In his younger years he played the saxophone and accordion.

Survivors include his wife Doris; sisters: Vi Lee and Adela (Art) Linrud both of Minot and brother: Hervin (Fran) Gliege of Federal Way, WA, brother-in-law: Donavon (Adeline) Newnam of Minot; sisters-in-law: Audrey Cordner of Glenburn, Zelma Mull of Minot and Phyllis (Shirley) Sand of Grand Forks and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Selma (Ted) Polsfut, Ida and Luella Gliege; brothers: Alvin, Duane, Carl, Rudolf, and Lyle Gliege; brother-in-law: Tom Lee and sister-in-law: Gloria Polsfut.

Funeral Service: Wednesday August 23, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel - Minot;
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens - Minot;
Visitation: Tuesday from Noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot;
Memorials: Memorials are preferred to Souris Valley Humane Society or Meals on Wheels.
