Obituary

Helen Schon, 93, longtime Minot resident, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in a Bozeman, MT senior living center memory care unit.

Helen Jeanette Hagen was born on September 10, 1925 in Minot, ND to Ole and Inga (Goesen) Hagen. She was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1943. She attended Dakota Business College in Fargo and lived there for five years. She was employed at various businesses in Fargo as an office worker and it was in Fargo where she met her future husband Harry.

Helen was united in marriage to Harry Schon on June 8, 1947 in Minot. They made their home in Minot and were the proud parents of two sons. Helen was part-owner and served as office manager for 25 years of Sebby's Carpetarea. She retired from that business in 1982 after she sold her shares in the business. Later, she worked at Ann's Fashions for 6 years. Harry died on March 13, 2008.

Helen was one of the oldest baptized active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. She served as a Sunday School teacher, in Martha's Circle, on the church council and as a Luther League advisor. She was a member and secretary-treasurer of the Zonta Club, volunteered at the Trinity Hospital Gift Shop for over 26 years and at the Norsk Hostfest for many years. She was a specially recognized volunteer for Trinity Auxiliary, served as editor for the Ostomy Club newsletter for 20 years and was a coffee club member for over 50 years. Helen was very instrumental in coordinating the reunions of the Minot High School Class of 1943 and provided a regular newsletter for her classmates.

Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling the country with Harry, spending family time at the Rice Lake cabin for 25 years, as well as spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her loving family includes, children, Al (Cheri) Schon, Minot, Wesley (Renee) Schon, Bozeman, MT; grandchildren: Eric, Meredith, Marissa, Chelsey, Jonathan, Caleb, Kaytlyn, Cierra, Victoria, Jackson, Trance, Emma, Noah and Jayden; great grandchildren: Helen and Harrison; several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, Harry; brothers, Orval and Melvin Hagen.

Celebration of the Life of Helen Schon: Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church- Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, March 25, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church or Dementia or Alzheimer's organizations of the donor's choice.
