Obituary

Hazel Ann Thomas, 89, Minot and formerly of Granville, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in a Minot healthcare facility.

Hazel was born October 24, 1922 in Granville, ND to Otis and Annie (Knutson) Lee. She made her home on the family farm near Granville and was educated in Granville.

Hazel married Vane Thomas on December 6, 1941 in Velva. They made their home in Minot for a short time until Vane was called into active duty service with the Army during World War II. She resided with her husband in Ohio, California and Texas where he was stationed with the Army. Following his discharge, they returned to Minot where Hazel was a fulltime wife, mother and homemaker and Vane was employed at Westland Oil Company and at Minot Air Force Base as a civilian fuel systems engineer. Vane died September 24, 2007. Hazel had been a resident of Edgewood Vista prior to entering ManorCare Health Services in June of 2011.

Hazel was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, where she was active with the LWML, served as a Sunday school teacher, and worked on various committees. She was also a member of the Minot VFW Auxiliary, DAV Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary, in which she was an officeholder. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Hazel enjoyed bowling and received several local and state awards and trophies in various bowling categories. She loved to go motorcycling, travel, bowl, sew and spend time with her grandchildren.

Her loving family includes , sons, Larry (Lydia) Thomas, San Antonio, TX; Danny (Becky) Thomas, Ocean Springs, MS; grandchildren, Tammy (Ron) Addleman, Tonya (Eric) Mihalovic, Terryl (Frank) Wood, Hazel Thomas, Heidi Thomas, Desiree (Phillip) Shows and Mandy (John) Guy; great-grandchildren, Dylan & Alyssa Addleman, Emily Mihalovic, Carson Wood, Heather & Samantha Shows; nieces: Jean Janssen of Santa Maria CA and Beverly Olson of Minot; nephews: Ken Potter of Anoka, MN and Don Lee of Lemon Grove, CA.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Albert; sisters, Irene Parge, Bertha Olson and Mildred Crawford; and granddaughter Heather Thomas.

Funeral service : Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment : Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation : Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 2:00 to7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot.
