Hazel Solemsaas, 71, Minot and formerly of Sherwood died on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in a Bismarck hospital.
Hazel was born on March 29, 1942 in Seattle, WA to Lloyd and Luella (Seibert) Armstrong. She was reared on the family farm in Hamerly Township of Renville County near Sherwood, graduated from Sherwood High School in 1960 and continued her education at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
Hazel married Layne Solemsaas on October 9, 1965 in the Sherwood Methodist Church. They made their home in Minot where Hazel began working for the City of Minot in 1968 and retired in 2003 as a billing clerk in the Water Department. Layne died on December 22, 2001.
Hazel was an active member of the Vincent United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She especially enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, outings with her "support" group and spending time with her grandchildren.
Hazel's loving family includes her children: Jeff (Brenda) Solemsaas of Bismarck and Brad (Gina) Solemsaas of Bismarck; grandchildren: Emerson Eve, Jonelle Evelyn, Camden Layne and Kaden Lloyd Solemsaas and several cousins including Polly (George) Benshoof of Minot and Goddaughter: Sally Vanerstrom.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant brother.
Celebration of the Life of Hazel Solemsaas: Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church Minot.
Graveside Service: Later in the spring in the Mohall Community Cemetery.
Visitation: Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association or Vincent United Methodist Church.
