Hazel C. Pettys, 85, Minot, formerly of rural Max, ND, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in a Minot Hospital.
Hazel was born December 19, 1923 on the family farm, near Max, ND, the daughter of Halvor and Christine (Holmes) Haugeberg. She was raised on the family farm and attended country schools near Max, until graduating from Minot High School in 1941. She attended French's Business College in Minot.
Hazel was united in marriage to Harold Pettys on June 28, 1945 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. They made their home in Minot throughout the years, where she assisted Harold with several of their business ventures, including Anchor Management & Realty, and Harold's Standard Service Station, primarily as a bookkeeper and later with the operation of North Hill Bowl Café. She was also employed locally for many years with Sears, where she worked in sales. Harold died June 2, 2005.
Hazel was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot and she and Harold were very active with the Minot Eagles Aerie, where they were honored with the Mr. & Mrs. Eagle Award in 1988. Hazel was a wonderful cook and was well known in the area for her lefse, which she often made in the early morning hours and sold at craft shows and other functions. She loved to crochet, knit, do embroidery work and put together jig-saw puzzles.
Her loving family includes: daughter Sandy (Vic) Fordyce, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Denny Freeman, Kimberly Yeich, Reanna Ady, Tara Flory, and Lacey Mehlhoff; great-grandchildren, Cutter and Gracie Flory, Mackenzie, Hayden and Nicholas Yeich, Lucas Ady; Sisters: Blanche Harkison, Clara Neshem and Nora Pederson, all of Minot; brother: Casper "Cap" Haugeberg, Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Jan Mehlhoff.

: Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm in First Lutheran Church, Minot;
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot;

Friday from 2:00-7:00pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
