Hazel "Hubby" Ostrom, 86, Minot, formerly of Portal, died Tuesday, June 03, 2025 in a St. Louis, Missouri nursing home.
Hazel Gilma Granrud was born on November 6, 1938 in Portal to Elmer and Clara (Lee) Granrud. She was raised and educated in Portal. Hazel graduated from Portal High School in 1956 and continued her education at Minot Business College.
Hazel married Harlind "Pat" Ostrom in Minot and they made their home in Portal. She was employed at Norman-Jensen Brokerage as secretary until her retirement at the age of 53. Harlind passed away on May 30, 2003. Hazel moved to Minot in 2004. She resided at Lakeview Condominiums and Edgewood Vista until her move to St. Louis in October of 2023.
Hazel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church – Minot; where she was active as a quilter and a member of the Hannah Circle. Also, she was a former member of Portal Presbyterian Church and Christ Lutheran Church in Lignite, ND. Her hobbies included quilting, baking, collecting antiques and traveling.
Hazel is survived by her children: Tamara (Tom) Barry, Hebron, KY, Todd (Marini) Ostrom, St. Louis, MO; sister: Mary Lee Kramer, Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law: Ron Johnson, Austin, TX; sister-in-law: Genevieve Granrud, Minot; and four grandchildren: Olivia (David) Mueller, Andrew Barry, Lydia Ostrom and Eric Ostrom.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Harlind; brothers: Evan (Muriel) Granrud and Oliver "Bud" Granrud; and sisters: Margaret Johnson and Clarice (Jack) Sterling.
