Obituary

Harry Nathan Smith, 91, Minot, former longtime Willis Township farmer, died Monday, March 21, 2011, in a Minot assisted living center.

Harry was born November 14, 1919, on the family farm in Willis Township of Ward County, the son of Nathan W. and Katherine (Kleinsasser) Smith. He was raised and educated in Willis Township and assisted with the operation of the family farm during his younger years.

Harry was united in marriage to Ida Pladsen on October 5, 1946, in rural, Minot. They made their home on a farm in Willis Township, where they raised small grains, cattle and horses from 1946 until retiring in 2000. They moved to Minot and had been living at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center since the summer of 2010.

Harry was a longtime member of Saron Lutheran Church and was active with the Church Council. He was a member of the Willis Township Board, Minot Trailriders Association and the North Dakota Farmers Union. He often took a team of his horses to area Threshing shows and local parades. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His loving family includes : wife of 64 years, Ida Smith, Minot; children, Kathy Smith and Michael (Cindy) Smith, Minot; grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer) Smith, Karlee (Gabriel) Rauschenberger and Justin Smith; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Preston and Julia Rose Smith, Annaliese, Gracie, and Burke Rauschenberger; brother, Homer Smith, of Minot; sisters, Alice Flammang, Albuquerque, NM; Dolly Roberts, Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Helen Pietsch.

Funeral service: Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Saron Lutheran Church, rural, Minot.
Interment: Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery, later in the spring.
Visitation: Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Saron Lutheran Church or an organization of the donor's choice.
