Obituary

Harry Schon , 88, Minot and formerly of the Mercer, ND area died on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Harry was born on July 9, 1919 on a farm near Mercer, ND to William and Katherine (Fiesel) Schon. He was raised on a farm near Mercer, ND and attended Country Consolidated School and Turtle Lake High School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1937 and was stationed at Camp #159 near Priest River Idaho. He entered the US Navy in 1944 and received his honorable discharge later that year. Following his discharge, he resided in Bismarck, ND where he was employed at Corwin Churchill Motors. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Fargo where he was employed by the same dealership.

While residing in Fargo he met Helen J. Hagen and they were married on June 8, 1947 in Minot, ND. They resided in Fargo for a short time before moving to Minot where Harry was employed as the parts department manager for Parker Motor Company. Later, he was employed in a similar capacity at Nielson-Stewart GMC, Blesener Olds and Jim Ryan Chevrolet dealerships in Minot. He retired in 1982.

Harry was a longtime and active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was active in youth groups, Men's Club and as an usher and member of church council. Fraternal organizations that Harry was involved with included service on the Golden K Kiwanis Board of Directors as well as official seller of the club's blue jackets and ticket taker and usher at a multitude of athletic events. He was a life time member of the Elks Lodge and a longtime member and treasurer of the Minot Ostomy Chapter. Also, he was a member of the Eagles Aerie, Moose Lodge and regular volunteer at the Norsk Hostfest. He especially enjoyed travel, golf, woodworking, walking and spending time at Rice Lake and with his grandchildren.

Harry's loving family includes his wife of 61 years Helen; sons: Allan Schon (Cheri Radford) of Minot and Wesley (Renee) Schon of Sioux Falls SD; grandchildren: Eric, Meredith, Marissa, Chelsey, Jonathan, Caleb, Jackson, Angel and Skylia; sisters: Ann Fetzer and Ardell Schon both of Bismarck, Elsie (Ernie) Peroni of Mount Shasta CA, Frieda Spelevoy of Fayetteville TN; brothers: Joe (Lorraine) Schon of Mercer ND, Benny (Ruth) Schon of Turtle Lake ND and Albert Schon of Hayward CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ida Lick and brothers: Walter and John Schon.

Funeral Service : Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation
: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Church building fund or to the donor's choice.
