Obituary

Harry Louis Harper, 91, Minot and formerly of Lakota died on Saturday, August 21, 2010 in a Minot nursing home with his loving family at his side.

Harry was born on September 29, 1918 in Lakota, ND to Richard and Lena (Schindele) Harper. He was reared on a farm near Lakota attended a rural school and graduated from Lakota High School in 1937. As a young adult he was employed at the family farm. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and in Japan during World War II. Following his honorable discharge he attended a trade school in Chicago where he received specialized training in mechanical engineering.

Harry married Stella Daleness on July 29, 1952 in Minot. They made their home in Velva and Riverdale before settling in Minot. During this time he was employed by Peter Kiewit Construction Company for forty years eventually serving as foreman and superintendent on various projects. His career included work on the Garrison Dam, Minot Air Force Base, highway and bridge building in Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming and gold mining. He retired in 1985. They made their home at 1718 West Central Ave in Minot for many years, recently living in a condo at 1548 16th St NW and especially enjoyed their time at Lake Metigoshe.

Harry was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Elks Lodge, and the Congregational United Church of Christ.

Harry's loving family includes his wife of 58 years Stella; daughter: Sharmi Anne of New York City; sister: Marian Witt of Hayward, CA, brother: Marvin Harper of Mansfield, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Henry, George, Edward, Percy, Robert, Warren, Clifford and Russell.

Funeral Service: Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Congregational United Church of Christ Minot.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Minot.
Visitation: No reviewal but friends may sign a memorial register on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Congregational United Church of Christ, Trinity Hospice, Souris Valley Animal Shelter or to the donor's choice.
