Obituary

Harris P. Kenner, 85, longtime Minot Attorney , died Sunday, September 16, 2012 in a Minot Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Harris was born near Brinsmade, North Dakota on June 5, 1927, the son of Harold and Clara (Williamson) Kenner. After graduating from Leeds High School, he entered into active duty service with the U.S. Army, and honorably served his country during World War II. At the end of the War he also attended Naval school in Hawaii.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Harris attended UND and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree in law. He moved to Minot in 1952, where he has practiced law for 52 years until retiring in 2004. He was recognized as a Platinum member of the Bar Association before retiring. Harris was united in marriage to Ardyth Rued on March 12, 1960 at Minot.

Harris was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Minot and served on the Church's Foundation Board. He was very active in the Minot Exchange Club, served as VFW Post 753 District Commander, State Republican Party President, Minot Chamber of Commerce, and was a 50-year member of the Minot Elks Club. Most notably, Harris was well known for being a philanthropist to many people and organizations.

Harris enjoyed time with his large extended family, whether at the cabin on Lake Sakakawea or at his home. He loved entertaining family members and especially enjoyed a good game of pinochle.

Harris is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Ardyth; daughter, Jeanine; granddaughter, Briane Swinnerton, Phoenix, AZ; brother, Harold Kenner, Bismarck; sister, Geraldine Rice, Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Harris was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Kenner; and sister, Marren Odegaard, Devils Lake.

Funeral service: Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Minot.
I nterment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from Noon-3:00pm in Thomas Family Funeral Home and will continue Thursday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Church with a family service there at 7:00p.m.
M emorials: In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorials to the First Lutheran Church Foundation.
