Dr. Harold Stewart , 85, Minot and formerly of Parshall, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in a Minot hospital.
Harold Derell Stewart was born on June 12, 1928 in Underwood, ND to Dr. Cecil and Sybilla (Johannes) Stewart. He was reared and educated in Garrison and graduated from Garrison High School.
He graduated from the University of North Dakota where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity prior to graduating from the University of Louisville Dental School in 1959.
Harold's education was interrupted by his proud service in the U.S. Navy from July 24, 1952 until his honorable discharge on July 28, 1955. He attained the rank of LTJG and was accorded the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal.
Harold married Susan Hoffman of Sterling, Illinois on August 13, 1955 in Sterling. They made their home in Parshall where he served the community as a dentist for thirty-five years. He retired in 1994 and they moved to Minot in 1995 where they since had lived.
Harold was a former member of First Lutheran Church, City Council, and Chamber of Commerce all in Parshall. Also, he was a member of ND Board of Dental Examiners. His hobbies and special interests included golf, travel, and spending time with his family.
Harold's loving family includes his wife of 58 years Sue; children: John (Jodi) Stewart and their daughter Olivia and Pete (Julie) Stewart and their children Hannah, Eli and Annika all of Minot, David (Kathy) Stewart and their children: Michelle (Matt) Conley, Kristina (Blair) Brennan and Shannon Stewart all of Virginia Beach, VA, Lynn (Bobby) Sturgell and their son Ben of Lothian, MD; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Joy and Dorothy and brother: Roy.
A private family service will take place at Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Interment will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery - rural Mandan.
Memorial Booksigning: Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
A Celebration of the Life of Harold Stewart Gathering will take place at a future date.
Memorials are preferred to the Jack Hoeven Wee Links Golf Course, Minot Family YMCA or the donor's choice
