Obituary

Harold Oliver Ofsthun Jr ., 63, Brainerd, MN and formerly of Minot died on August 17, 2015 at his home from cancer related to his exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.

Harold Jr. was born on November 17, 1951 in Minot to Harold Sr. and Oveida (Llewellyn) Ofsthun. He was reared and educated in Minot. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 5, 1970. He served in Okinawa, Japan and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Pistol Shot Medal prior to his honorable discharge as a Bosun's Mate Third Class on in 1984. Harold was once married to Laura Diehl.

Junior, as he was known by family and friends, returned to Minot where he was employed as a diesel mechanic for Schatz's Crossroads Truck Stop. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 29, 1990 and served as a military policeman until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant on June 8, 1991. He was a recipient of the Liberation of Kuwait Medal. Following his discharge he returned to Minot where he continued his employment with Schatz's Truck Stop. He worked there until his retirement in 2007. Junior moved to Brainerd, MN in 2009 to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Junior was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Brainerd and a former member of the Minot Curling Club and Minot American Legion Post #26. He especially enjoyed curling, bowling and playing poker, darts and pool.

Harold is survived by his children: Shane of Brainerd, Chanel (Matthew) Zebroski of Baxter, MN and Shayla (Travis) Pikula of Brainerd; seven grandchildren: Elisha, Caitlyn, Johnathan, Chase, Mason, Dadeian and Ashton; sisters: Darlene (Paul) Bergren of Minot and Karen (Rory) Hunter of Sanborn; brothers: Johnny (Dora) Ofsthun of Granville and Richard "Rick" Ofsthun of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy, niece: Tabatha Hunter and great nephew: Paul Farrell.

Graveside Service: Friday, August 28, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Rosehill Memorial Park Minot.
Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
