Harold L. Moseng, 85, Minot, formerly of the Benedict area, died Sunday, January 25, 2010 in a Minot Hospital.

Harold was born October 16, 1924 on the family farm in Greely Township of Ward County, the son of Carl and Martha (Gunderson) Moseng. He was raised on the homestead near Benedict and attended school at Darrow School until the 8th grade. He assisted with the operation of the farm until he entered into active duty service with the U S. Navy in May 29, 1944 and was honorably discharged from Farragut Naval Base, ID, following service to his country. Harold gained employment in the shipyards at Tacoma, WA. During this time, he lived with his sister and her husband, Gina and William Christianson in Olympia.

Harold returned to the family farm near Benedict, where he assisted his father, until his father became unable to work. Harold was always a skilled mechanic and builder, often sought out to fix tractors, combines and many other forms of equipment. He later took over the operation of the farm, raising livestock and farming until a medical condition forced him to sell the livestock and rent out the land. He continued to reside between the farm and with his sister, Myrtle in Minot, helping her as her health failed. He was well known in the area for being an inventor of many new types of gadgets that made life easier.

Harold was a caring, loving, and unselfish man, who brought others joy just by knowing him. He didn't talk much, but was an example to everyone. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He attended many thrashing shows and always looked forward to road trips to Medora, and to visit relatives in Canada, Montana and Fargo. Harold was a lover of all animals, often driving to the farm in a blizzard to make sure they were warm and fed. He shared a talent of music with his brother, Morris. They enjoyed hours of singing, playing guitar and the mandolin. Our joy was drinking coffee and listening to his old time stories which he told so well. He was our family historian and will be deeply missed by all of us.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers, Clarence (Mabel) and Arthur Moseng, brother, Morris Moseng, Sisters, Myrtle (William) Schmidt, Gina (William) Christianson, Minnie (Edwin) Woster, and Clara Beatrice Moseng; nephews, Norman Moseng, Edwin Moseng, Eric Woster, Timothy Moseng; nieces, Shirley Huizenga, Mary Moseng, and Ilene Woster Williams and nephews-in-law, John Boomer and Quent Gonser.

Funeral service: Friday, January 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict.
Interment: Benedict Methodist Cemetery in the spring.
Visitation will take place Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church or the Benedict Methodist Cemetery.
