Harold Warner Haner, 101, Minot and formerly of rural Douglas died on Friday, August 8, 2014 in a Minot hospital.
Harold was born on November 10, 1912 on a farm near Douglas, ND to Warren and Anna (Olstrom) Haner. He was reared and educated on the family farm and attended rural schools in that area. As a young adult he assisted his family with the operation of the family farm and was employed by a road construction company and area farmers.
Harold married Anna Olsen on June 10, 1936 in Minot and they made their home on a farm in Spring Lake Township of Ward County, near Douglas until 1967 when they moved to Minot and their son Arden began operating the farm. Harold retired from farming in 1997. Anna died on May 12, 2000. Harold moved to the Dakota Terrace Apartments in 2003 and most recently had resided at Edgewood Vista and the Garrison Memorial Hospital Swing Bed Unit for the past few months.
Harold was a member of Zion Lutheran Church - Minot and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church -Douglas. As a school leader he was Treasurer (10 years), Clerk (10 years) and PTA President (2 years) for the Douglas School District; as a farm leader he was President and Director for a Douglas elevator (24 years), District Supervisor for the SW Ward Soil Conservation District (7 years) and Spring Lake Township Clerk (10 years); as a county leader he served Ward County as a Commissioner (13 years), Park Board member (13 years), Welfare Board (4 years) and Director of Tax Equalization (10 years); as a state leader he served on the ND State Fair Board (10 years) and the ND County Commissioner Association for 2 years (1 year as President); and as a church leader he served as treasurer of his church (7 years). Also, he was a member of a senior citizens organization in Minot. His passions in life were his family and serving others.
Harold's loving family includes his children: Arden (Judith) Haner of Douglas; son-in-law: James Johnson of Fargo; seven grandchildren: Lisa Krueger, Sheldon Haner, Anita Riemer, Trent Haner, Wade Johnson, Brent Johnson and Nicole Jones; twenty-two great grandchildren: Alexis, Caitlin, Erica, Matt, Lindsey, Drew, Megan, Carl, Brittny, Evan, Safira, Morgan, Isabella, Dakota, Aspyn, Hunter, T.J., Parker, Chloe, Myra, Marisa and Joshua; one stepgreat grandchild: Crystal; two great great grandchildren: Olivia and Ethan; sister-in-law: Dorothy Haner, Denver and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter: Shirlene Johnson, sisters: Sara Spanswick, Olena Johnson, Alice Nelson and Clara Johnson and brothers: Oscar and Clarence Haner.
Celebration of the Life of Harold Haner: Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or American Cancer Society.
