Hannah A. Hanson, 98, Minot, died Sunday, July 6, 2008 in a Minot Hospital.
Hannah was born October 22, 1909 in Minot, ND to Axel and Mathilda (Anderson) Johnson. She was raised on the family farm southeast of Minot and educated in country schools and graduated from Minot High School. She worked for a short time for the Salvation Army. There she met her future husband, Henry Hanson. They were united in marriage on October 8, 1932 in Minot. They continued to reside in Minot. Henry died March 7, 1973.
Along with raising their ten children, Hannah was well known for baking for the Minot Livestock Auction. In addition to baking, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting and gardening. Hannah was a much-rewarded entrant at the North Dakota State Fair, having entered baking and handcrafts such as sewing, needlework and rug-making every year since the state fair first opened in 1922. She won countless first place and best show awards for her various entries. Hannah was a lifetime member and currently the oldest living member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Rachel Circle serving group.
Surviving family includes: Children: Helen (Richard) Bonebrake, Minot, Margie Zietlow, Minot, Virginia (Jack) Trousdale, Mansfield, TX, Fred (Linelle) Hanson, Bismarck, Rod (Marlene) Hanson, Bismarck, Richard (Margaret) Hanson, Lakeside, AZ, Tom (Janet) Hanson, Minot, Russ (ShaunAnne Tangney) Hanson, Minot, Martha (Frank) Misuraca, Minot; Step-Sons: Robert and John Hanson, both California; Sisters: Vivian Hagen, Minot and Ethel (Erwin) Hauf, Max; Brother: Bill Johnson, Minot; Brother-in-law: Walter Smith, Colorado Springs, CO and 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Hannah was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Don; grandson: Eric Misuraca; sisters: Helen Darling and Florence Smith; Brothers: Clarence, Francis, and Johnny Johnson.
Funeral:
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot.
Interment:
Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
Visitation:
Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
