Holman Orville Burton Olson, 89, Minot, ND, died Sunday, June 22, 2014 in his daughter's home in Isanti.

Burton was born May 20, 1925 on the family farm near Burlington, North Dakota, the son of Albert and Judith (Holman) Olson. He moved with his family at an early age to a farm south of Burlington in Burlington Township and was educated at country schools. He graduated from Minot Model High School in 1944 and was drafted into the US Navy on May 28, 1944. He served his country stateside during World War II and was honorably discharged on February 2, 1945.

Following his discharge, he returned to Minot to pursue farming on the family farm south of Burlington. He was united in marriage to Margaret Schumacher on April 22, 1948 in Kenmare, ND. They lived in rural Burlington and later near Minot, before moving into Minot in 1962. He was trained as a truck driver at Minot Builder's Supply and worked for Buckingham Trucking Company from 1947-1972. He was later employed at First American Bank as a parking attendant.

Burton was a member of the local Teamsters Union, Minot American Legion Post, Moose Lodge and Eagles Aerie. He enjoyed canning, word finds, and playing pinochle or poker, especially at Ben's, among other things.

His loving family includes: children, Dan (Vickie) Olson, Minot, Wilma (Ken) Buzzard, Tucson, AZ, Mary (Bennie Jr.) Wagner, Ridgecrest, CA, James (Nancy) Olson, Minot, Bridget (Fred) Bly, Isanti, MN; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, brothers in law, Doran Glasoe and Cap Haugeberg, both of Minot, sister in law, Helen Tague, Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burton was preceded in death by his parents, son, Roger, sisters, Wilma Bredvig, Melba Haugeberg, Phyllis Bowen, Bergatta Pederson and Arlene Glasoe and a brother, Arlo.

Burton's wife Margaret passed away on July 7, 2014.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in St Leos Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Noon in the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Visitation : At the request of family, there will not be a reviewal, however friends may sign the memorial register on Tuesday from 3:00-6:00p.m. at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
