Gregory Bechtold , 62, Minot, died Thursday, August 29, 2024, in a Minot hospital.

Gregory was born September 23, 1961, in Minot, ND to Roy and Margery (Busch) Bechtold. He spent his youth in the community of Sawyer, ND, graduating with the Sawyer High School Class of 1980. He earned the senior class yearbook title of 'Mr. Irresistible!" Greg attended college at Minot State University for a couple years and was a member of the Mu Sigma Tau fraternity.

Greg married Bonnie Neumiller on August 31, 1991. They made their lifelong home in Minot and were blessed with a son Trevor in 1993.

Greg's working years took him all around the country.  First, he found work on a seismographing crew in the oil industry. He was responsible for setting the dynamite! Greg worked construction for a time and helped to build the grain elevator in Max, ND. He found his niche with the Kalamaha family as he started working for KALCO, Inc. in the recovery of precious metals. This job took him nationwide and allowed his wife to visit him in many great places, creating a lifetime of memories.

Greg sustained a serious back injury on the job, which required an 8-hour surgery to repair ruptured discs and broken vertebrae. He was also diagnosed at 18 with retinitis pigmentosa, a debilitating eye condition which would eventually leave him completely blind. It led to a lifetime of pain and physical disability; however, this would not define Greg. He was a strong man who always carried himself with a smile.

He cared for the household duties, was a wonderful father to his son and devoted husband to his wife Bonnie. Together they enjoyed the outdoors camping, fishing and hunting, often sharing the gifts of their catch and hunt with family and friends. Greg was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share in his life. We are grateful he is now without pain and with his son Trevor watching over us every day!

Greg is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Bonnie, Minot; sister Debra Bechtold, Newland, NC and brother Randy (Jamie) Bechtold, Minot; mother-in-law Donella Engstrom, Bismarck, ND; nephews Carter Bechtold, Minot and Bryce Bechtold, Seattle, WA along with many cousins.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, son Trevor, father-in-law Les Engstrom and in-laws Cheryl (Keith) Newman and Julie (Ed) McLain.

Visitation: Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
