Grace M. Brittner, 90, Minot, formerly of Bowman, died Friday, April 16, 2010, in her home.
Grace Brittner was born June 8, 1919 in the home of her parents, John and Dora (Nichols) Oberfoell, in Woodberry Township, north of Scranton, ND.
After graduation from high school, Grace went to Dickinson StateTeachers' College to prepare for a career of teaching music andelementary school. Her first teaching job was at Lone Tree School,where she met her future husband, a rancher in the area. She marriedSteve in 1943 and continued to teach in rural schools as he went toserve in the army. Grace had a love of knowledge and books, and she took many college classes throughout the 25 years she taught school.
Grace was very happy raising 3 girls in rural Buffalo Springs. Summers were filled with gardening and flowers. She was known to have a green thumb, and she won many awards for her flower arranging. She was still raising a large garden each year until age 90.
Those who shared her life are Daughters, Dorothy Brittner, Minot; Linda Watson, Minot; grandson, Jesse Watson, Minot; granddaughter, Holly (Ray) Roecker and their children, Nathan, Caleb, and Kaylin, McMinnville, Oregon; Brother, Jim Oberfoell, Sentinel Butte, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Susie, and 5 brothers.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment: North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, Rural Mandan.
