Obituary

Gordon Merrill Christenson, 93, longtime Minot resident, died peacefully Saturday, August 31, 2019 in a Minot Assisted Living Center.

Gordon was born October 15, 1925 at Kramer, North Dakota the son of Albert and Olga (Storvestre) Christenson. He was raised and educated at Newburg and graduated from Newburg High School in 1943. Gordon was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 19, 1945 and served his country until October 2, 1946 during the end World War II. He also served for a time with the Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1952.

Gordon was united in marriage to Arlene Bjorke on October 24, 1953 in Ft Lewis, Washington. Following their marriage, they returned to Minot, where along with raising their three children, he was employed with Fargo Paint and Glass as a glass glazer. He was employed with the company from 1954 until his retirement in 1989.

Gordon was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, Minot, where he served on the Church council as a past president and the Church Men in Mission. He was a former member of the Minot American Legion Post #26, Elks Lodge #1089 and Eagles Aerie. He was a current member of the VFW Post #753.

His loving family includes: Wife of 65 years, Arlene; children, Nancy Christenson, Minot; Roger Christenson, Denver, CO and Robin (Elba) Christenson, San Lorenzo, CA; grandchildren, Joel, Edward & Sara and her husband, Shaun Brentrup; 5 great grandchildren to include: Caleb, Chance, Brielle, Lucy and Jayde; siblings, Virgil (Sylvia) Christenson, Carson City, NV, Marjorie Sund, Newburg and Allen (Barb) Christenson, Minot; brother in law, Art Varloe, Surrey; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean Hitchcock; brothers, Ivan Christenson and his wife, Delores and Glen Christenson

Funeral service: Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot. Visitation: Friday, September 6th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church.
