Glenn Vangsness , 91, Minot, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, in his home.

Glenn was born November 24, 1922, near Hartland, ND to Andrew and Anna (Hagen) Vangsness. He grew up in the Hartland area and graduated from Hartland High School with the class of 1941.

Glenn enlisted into the US Army on November 20, 1942 serving his country during World War II, serving in the South Pacific , he received the Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1946. He returned to his family in ND and assisted with the farming operation for three years.

Glenn was united in marriage to Donna Sanders on June 26, 1955. They made their home in Minot. He completed his diesel mechanic training from Hanson's Automotive School and gained employment at Krebsbach's, Inc. as a diesel mechanic in 1953 Glenn continued in that position for 29 years until retiring in 1981.

He was a former member of the Congregational United Church of Christ of Minot, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

He enjoyed hunting and fishing over the years and was gifted with a sense of humor and a love of music. Glenn loved time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who shared in his life .

His family includes loving wife of 58 years, Donna, Minot; children, Bruce (Missy) Vangsness, Mission Hills, CA, Brenda (Joe) Hathaway, Sunland, CA and Brian (Jennifer Zeitler-Smith) Vangsness, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Brooke Martinez, Brandon (Lydia) Vangsness, Matthew Hathaway, Wade (Allison) Vangsness, Benjamin (Katie) Vangsness and Casey Vangsness; great grandchildren, Mikayla Martinez and Hadley Vangsness; sisters, Esther (Lyle) Opland, Minot, ND and Verna Nelson, Bellevue, WA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Irene Toops, Alice Anderson and Mabel Erickson and brothers, Art, Martin and Elmer Vangsness.

Celebration of Life Service will be held in the summer of 2014
Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND in the summer of 2014
There will be no reviewal, however, family and friends are invited to sign a memorial register book on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Hospice or Metigoshe Ministries.
