Obituary

Glenn Ness, 86, Minot, died Monday, October 7, 2019 in a Minot nursing home.

Glenn was born September 10, 1933 on the family farm near Des Lacs, ND to Alfred and Gladys (Rovig) Ness. Growing up he walked to the Torning Township country school with his sisters and in the winter skied to get there easier. As a boy of seven he remembered the thrill of driving his father's John Deere Model D tractor. Glenn attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo and graduated with the class of 1951. He went on to further his education in Fargo, attending a short course at the North Dakota Agricultural College and received a training certificate in agriculture.

Glenn returned to the Minot area and farmed with his parents on the Ness family farmstead located Southwest of Minot. He purchased the farm from his parents in 1965.

Glenn was united in marriage to Valerie Dennis on June 6, 1970 in Williston. This union was blessed with three children. They would spend the next 45 growing seasons on the farm raising livestock and small grains. They moved to Minot in 2015 and farmed until the age of 81.

Glenn was a member of Saron Lutheran Church, rural Minot and volunteered for many years within the church. He supported his community with memberships to the Eagles, Elks, Moose Lodge, Sons of Norway, AARP and was a past President of the Ward County Farmer's Union. He served on the boards of South Prairie School, Farm Credit Services, Farmer's Union and Torning Township. He worked security for the ND State Fair and was a supporter/volunteer of the Hostfest for many years.

Glenn enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. Another joy was participating in the annual Makoti Threshing Show where he drove his family's 1912 Rumely Oil Pull. His family returned each year learning more about their heritage from Glenn's stories. Now the 4th generation continues the tradition. He will be missed by all who shared in his life.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Valerie Ness, Minot; children Carmen Bush, Fargo, ND, Kyle Ness, Helena, MT and Coralie (John) Gumbert, Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren Cameron (Marinda) Bush, Leighton Bush, Abigail Bush, Sheldon Bush, Zachary Ness, Nicholas Ness, AJ Ness, Kylie Ness, Brennen Gumbert and Hayden Gumbert; sister Doris Magaenau, Grand Forks, ND and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Ness and sisters Glennys Ness, Alvilda Pfeiffer and Marie Levadney.
