Glen Roy Warner , 82, Ryder, died Friday, July 9, 2010 in a Minot hospital after a long illness.
Glen was born April 23, 1928 at the family farm south of Makoti to Merritt Leon Warner and his wife Annie Lida (Peck) Warner. He was raised on the farm and educated in the elementary schools of rural Hiddenwood Township and Makoti, attending Ryder High School and graduating in 1946.
On June 22, 1950 he married Joyce Ione Sherven, daughter of Marcus Sherven and Alice (Lerum) Sherven at the old First Presbyterian Church in downtown Minot. Following a brief residence in Makoti, the couple moved onto and operated the family farm as well as several other enterprises including a well boring company, a custom field spraying operation and a snowmobile repair shop. Together they raised three children, John Merritt, Judith Marie and Gail Renea and enjoyed fifty- five years of marriage before Joyce died on 30 October 2005 following a lengthy illness. They had spent more than twenty winters at their second home in Mesa, Arizona.
Glen was an active member of St John's Lutheran Church, serving in various positions as an officer of the congregation. He was a talented carpenter and woodworker, leaving many beautiful and useful additions to the church and the community. He was active in the Ryder Historical Society, Hiddenwood Old Settler's Association, Hiddenwood Township officer and numerous cooperative boards. He served for a long time as the county chairman of the ASCS board. He was the voice of the Makoti Threshing Bee, serving many years as its parade announcer. In his later years he was active in promoting Mesa Village social functions in Arizona.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents, Merritt and Annie Warner, his brother Murry, his brother Leon and wife Belvedere. He is survived by son John and wife Janice of Ryder; daughter Judi and husband Roger Orluck of Elk River, MN; daughter Gail and husband Carl Bowers of Rohnert Park, CA; grandchildren Lisa Warner of Bismarck, Krista Savian (Robert) of Rosemount, MN, Mallory Warner-Richter (Mark) of Minneapolis, MN, and Lindsey Ilenda (Kris) of Grand Forks, Patrick Benson of Fargo, , Amber Olson (Marc) of Nevada, IA and Seth Bowers of Rohnert Park; and great grandchildren Jordyn Warner, Alana and Sophia Savian and Cayden Olson, special friend Bev Gracek of Carlton, MN; sister-in-law Alice Warner of Minot and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral:
11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14th at at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ryder
Interment:
Sunset Memorial Gardens, located north of Minot at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation:
Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
