Gladys Alvina Peterson, 90, Minot and formerly Ryder, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, in a Minot adult foster care home.
Gladys was born on November 24, 1920 in Plaza, ND to Haakon and Carrie (Helland) Glaholt. She was reared and educated in Plaza and graduated from Plaza High School.
Gladys married Lynn F. Peterson on September 24, 1941 at Wolf Point, MT. They made their home on a grain and cattle farm in Anna Township of Ward County near Ryder. They retired from farming in 1986 and moved to the Dakota Terrace Apartments in Minot, ND. Lynn died on January 2, 1995. Gladys continued to reside at the Dakota Terrace Apartments until early in 2011. She had been a resident of the Ballard Adult Foster Care Home where she received excellent care.
Gladys was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Ryder where she was active with the United Presbyterian Women. Also, she was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program in Minot. She enjoyed farm life, gardening, family auto trips, and socializing with people of all ages, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was such a loving mother and wife, Dad\'s partner in every part of the farming, and so involved in our lives.
Gladys\' loving family includes her children: LeRoy (Sandra) Peterson of Ryder, Dennis (Mary) Peterson of Minot, DelRaye (Terry) Johansen of Ryder; grandchildren: Reverend Deanna (Bob) Reikow, David (Cindy) Peterson, Carolyn (Dr. Kevin) Munns, Tammy Slaven, Doug Peterson, Darin (Michelle) Johansen, Jamie (Nikki) Johansen, Jenn (Dean) Rockwell; great grandchildren: Blake and Marshall Reikow, Megan Munns, Julian and Taylor Slaven, Mercedes and Brandy Walters, Garrett and Austin Johansen, Alyssa, Morgan, and Emily Johansen, Quentin, Lora, Carson, and Lainey Rockwell; sisters-in-law: Leona (Ray) Zahnow, Jeanice (George) Officer, Mildred Peterson all of Minot and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson-in-law Billy Ray Slaven, sisters: Bertha (Henry) Olson, Hilda (Henry) Kravik, Julia (Roy) Hartman, Ida (Wynn) Edwards, Crystal (Lloyd) Olson; brothers: Norman (Agnes) Glaholt and Clifford Glaholt; brother and sister-in-laws: Lial (Gladys) Peterson, Leslie Peterson, Layton Peterson, Leonard (Agnes) Peterson, Lucille (Rex) Woods, Lillian (Allen) Romsas, Lydia Peterson, Lavina (Carl) Sauer, Laura (Clayton) Erb, Luverna (Ira) White, Lorraine (Ferdie) Peterson, Lenora (Wayne) Erb, LeRoy Peterson, and Lloyd Peterson.
Prayer Service: Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral Service: Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Presbyterian Church, Ryder.
Graveside Service: Monday at 3:00 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Calvary Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice.
