Gladys Lien, 93, Minot, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in her home.
Gladys Marie Lien was born on September 6, 1922 on a farm in Dogden Township of McLean County southwest of Butte, North Dakota to Philip and Anna (Poleschook) Nachatilo. She was raised and educated in the Butte area and attended Butte Public School. She also attended a business college in Bismarck, ND. As a young adult she lived in California for a short time prior to moving to Brookfield, IL where she was employed by Western Electric in Chicago, Illinois during World War II.
Gladys moved to Minot and met Sidney Lien there. They were married on December 14, 1946 at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage in Minot. They made their home in Minot and they lovingly raised five children. Gladys was self-employed as a licensed adult foster care provider for more than forty years. Sid was employed at Minot Federal Savings and Loan, as a landman for Jessen Oil Company, and real estate agent for Coldwell Banker-First Minot Realty. Gladys retired in 1995. Sidney died on July 31, 1999. Gladys had continued to make her home in Minot.
Gladys, as a member of First Baptist Church in Minot, served as a teacher for Sunday School, Bible School and Child Evangelism, having Good News Club meetings in her home. She also served as a deaconess, co-chairman of the church decorating committee and member of the Women's Missionary Society and XYZ (Extra Years of Zest) Group. Also, she served as a Cub Scouts den mother. Later, she became a member of the Minot Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Gladys' hobbies included traveling, listening to country gospel music, cooking, reading, organ playing, and she especially enjoyed the friendship of the Birthday Club and Scrabble Club members. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida and especially enjoyed a cruise to the Caribbean.
Family Members include: Children: Richard Lien of Tampa, FL, Howard (Darlene) Lien of Minot, Douglas Lien of Minot, and Todd (Lorri) Lien of Big Lake, MN; Grandchildren: Danny, Michael, Ricky, Ryan, Heidi, Jamie, Eric, Lisa, Matthew, Alexis, and Trevor; Great-grandchildren: Kyle, Keaton, Kimberly, Emily, Sydney, Nicole, Aidan, Bella, Jacob, and Aubrey; Sister: Ruth Yecoshenko of Butte, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Bonita Lien (2010) sisters: Elizabeth Tarasenko, Katie Lalka, Florence Davis, Rose Ray, Ann Demchuk and Lydia Hornbacher and brothers: John, Bill, Steve, Paul, Philip and Luke Nachatilo.
Funeral Service: Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seventh-day Adventist Church - Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm at the Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot and Monday one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
