Obituary

Gladys Eunice Gieser , 92, Minot, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, in her home.

Gladys was born April 7, 1918, near Coleharbor, North Dakota, to David and Katherine (Auch) Hummel. She was raised and received her formal education in country schools in Snow Township of McLean County. As a young adult she was employed in various capacities and places in the area.

Gladys moved to Minot in 1940, gaining employment at the Eatmore Sausage Plant. Gladys was united in marriage to Adam "Tony" Gieser on February 15, 1942, in Minot, ND, where they made their home. Gladys and her husband operated the Surrey Café for a couple of years in the early 60's, later residing in Noonan, ND for a short time. Tony passed away in 1968.

Following his death, Gladys remained active in Minot, finding her niche blessing the Elk's Lodge with her culinary skills for over 30 years until her retirement in 1991.

Gladys was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot and a past member of the VFW Auxiliary, both of Minot in addition to serving as an annual volunteer at the Hostfest for many years. Her life enjoyments stretched further than cooking to include, collecting glass birds, spending valuable time with her family and always being generous to others. She will be deeply missed by all who touched and shared in her life.

She is survived by her son, Gary (Michele) Gieser, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Tim Fox, Sheila Fox Stanton, Tom Fox, Christopher Gieser, Karrie Boedicker and Tony Gieser; great-grandchildren, Brandy and Samantha Stanton and Kristen Gieser, Sterling Fox, and Isabella and William Boedicker; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, David, daughter, Karen Fox, sister, Gertrude Vannett, an infant brother, and brothers, Carl, Dave and Irvin Hummel.

Funeral service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, ND;
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND;
Visitation: One hour prior to the start of the service at the church.
