Obituary

Gladys Dockter, 87, Velva, formerly of Mandan & Tuttle, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, in the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva.

Gladys was born September 13, 1923 at Buckeye Township of Kidder County, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Mary (Hanson) Burman. She was raised and educated in Buckeye Township and graduated from Steele High School.

Gladys was united in marriage to Harold Dockter on June 4, 1944. They made their homes in Mandan and Tuttle. Throughout the years, she taught at a country school near Tuttle, after they moved to Mandan in 1955, she worked as a switchboard operator at the Mandan Creamery. In 1972 they moved to Tuttle where she worked as a cook and janitor for the Tuttle School. Harold died January 14, 1989. Gladys continued to live in their home until she moved to Velva in 1998.

Gladys was a former member of English Lutheran Church in Tuttle, ND and active with Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. She enjoyed quilting with the Oak Valley Quilters and bible study with the Morning Glory Circle. She was a lifetime member of the Mandan Eagles Aerie, a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Tuttle and the Velva Senior Citizens Group.

Gladys enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, canning, playing cards, cooking and gardening, as well as visiting with family and friends.

Her loving family includes: Children, Iris Swedlund, Velva, John (Mona) Dockter, Mandan, Kathie (Gene) Schobinger, Gardner; Grandchildren, Searle Swedlund, Moorhead, MN, Shayla Swedlund (John Marshall), Anchorage, AK, Forrest (Maria) Dockter, Bismarck, Brea (Dusty) Zins, Mandan, Robert (Kim) Schobinger, Fargo, and Brian (Kayla) Schobinger, Fargo; Great-Grandchildren, Brody and Madison Schobinger.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, parents, sisters, Agnes & Esther and brothers, Carl, Don, George, Bob and Floyd Burman.

Funeral service: Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND;
Interment: Tuttle Community Cemetery later in the Spring;
Visitation: Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva;
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Oak Valley Quilter\'s and the English Lutheran Church, Tuttle.
