Obituary

Gottlieb "G.G." Henne, 90, Minot and former longtime South Prairie area farmer died on Sunday, July 22, 2018 in a Minot hospital.

Gottlieb "G.G." Henne was born on December 8, 1927 on the family farm near Coleharbor, ND to Adolph and Margaretha (Gellner) Henne who were Germans from Russia and came to the U.S. in 1902 and 1905. G.G. was reared and educated in the Garrison, ND area and helped on the family farm until he was drafted into military service in 1946. He served in the U.S. and as a member of the occupation army in Japan. He was discharged as a Sergeant and returned to the family farm.

G.G. married Mildred Okerson on July 25, 1948 at Bethel Lutheran Church near Coleharbor. They lived on a farm near Garrison for one year until the construction of Garrison Dam forced them to move. Their dads helped them purchase a farm south of Minot where they lived for over 60 years. Mildred died on October 27, 2010. G.G. moved to Minot in December of 2012.

G.G. enjoyed politics and served on many local board of directors including the Ward County Commission for 12 years, South Prairie School Board, Freedom Township Board, Ward County Special Education Board, Farmers Union Elevator Board and Town and Country Credit Union Board. He was a member of Our Redeemer's Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

G.G.'s loving family includes his 5 children: Larenda (Paul) Ellertson of Grand Forks, Rhonda (Stephen) Zimny of Lansford, Susan (Warren) Schmutzler, Kent (Angela) Henne and Dean (Joan) Henne all of Minot; 10 grandchildren: Byron (Sheila) Lindbo, Amanda (Patrick) Wagner, Zachariah (Alyssa) Zimny, Hannah (Marty) Fundaun, Shawn (Suzie Lynn) Schmutzler, Wendy (Parren) Flemming, Jersey Schmutzler, Mallory (Jake) Lochthowe, Myles (Erica) Henne and Paul Henne;17 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Mildred; son, Brien; grandson, Wade Schmutzler; as well as 3 brothers: Adolph, Otto and Albert Henne and 4 sisters: Ida Schempp, Anna Traub, Louise Eslinger and Alma Henne.

Celebration of the Life of G.G. Henne: Monday, July 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Redeemer's Church - Minot.
Interment will be in Saron Lutheran Church Cemetery - rural Minot.
Visitation: Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.
Memorials: Donor's choice.
