Obituary

Gerry Freed, 74, Minot, formerly of the Max area, died Friday, March 16, 2012 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Gerry was born December 18, 1937 at Minot, North Dakota the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Walz) Krueger. She was raised on the family farm in Rushville Township of Ward County and attended country schools in Sunnyslope and Iota Flat Township. She graduated from Max High School in 1954 and began employment with the Minot Daily News in 1954.

Gerry was united in marriage to Charles Freed on August 21, 1960. They made their home in Minot, where she continued with the Minot Daily News in the advertising and business departments until retiring in April of 2000.

Gerry was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, its ELCA, secretary of the Church Council and served on the Lay Ministry Board. The Church was a very important part of her life. She was also a former member of the American Diabetic Association.

Gerry enjoyed reading, doing embroidery work, gardening, canning and cooking. She loved to make soups.

Her loving family includes her husband of fifty-one years, Charles; children, Brenda (Shawn) Foley, Woodbridge, VA, and Brian (Bonnie) Freed, Minot; Grandchildren: Lynsey, Aubrey and Tristin Foley and Anthony Freed (Kim Weismann); sisters, Violet Wendschlag of Lexington, KY and Connie (Glenn) Claxton of Forney, TX; brothers, Gordon (Linda) Krueger, Minot, Eugene (Angie) Krueger, Arvada, CO, and Marvin (Nadine) Krueger, New port, OR and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Roland Krueger; sister, Carolyn Gullickson and an infant sister, Marilyn and brothers-in-law, Ernest Wendschlag and Kermit Gullickson.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church due to the flooding of Christ Lutheran Church.

Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.

Visitation: Monday, March 19, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home - Minot.

Memorials: In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.
