Geraldine Peterson, 89, longtime resident of Minot died peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026 in her home.  She was surrounded by her loving family.

Geraldine Ione was born on May 4, 1936 in Minot, ND to Olger and Viola (Hovey) Barsness.  She was raised and educated in Velva and Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1954.

Geraldine married Jerome D. Peterson on September 24, 1955 at Bethany Lutheran Church – Minot.  They made their home in Minot where Geraldine was first and foremost a wife, mother and homemaker and was a bookkeeper for Peterson Excavating.  Later, she was employed by Sears, Minot State University, B & B Drug and Kmart for ten years.  Jerome died on May 31, 1978.  Most recently, Geraldine had resided at Edgewood Vista and Serenity Corner.

Geraldine was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a former member of the Elks Lodge and Eagles Aerie.  She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and was passionate about attending her grandchildren's activities as well as cooking especially her dumpling soup, banana bread and coleslaw.

Geraldine's loving family includes her children: Julie (Alan) Argust, Jane (Mark) Grunenwald, Jennifer (Don) Lafontaine and John (Kim) Peterson; grandchildren:  Eric (Cortney) Argust, Ryan (Mallee) Argust, Jessica (Owen) Kilichowski, Christine (Ryan) Melton, Heather Paul, Jamie (Nick) Apffel, Justin (Krystle) Lafontaine, Tyler (Lynnae) Peterson, Sarah (Steven) Ralph, Zachary (Lillian) Peterson; great grandchildren:  Alivia, Roy, Ivy and Gus Argust; Jayten and Bella Kilichowski; Mason Melton; Nicholas, Christian, Hunter, Brady, Jase, and Tristian Apffel; Price and Penny Lafontaine and Saquon and Spencer Ralph;  siblings: Audrey Nelson and Terry (Jean) Barsness; brother-in-law:  David Klovstad and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband: Jerome "Wheaties" Peterson; parents:  Olger and Viola Barsness; parents-in-law: Roy and Haldis Peterson, sister: Diane (Steve) Stevenson; in-laws: Mike Nelson, James Peterson, LaDonna (Tom) Stonerook, Janice (Jerry) Klimpel, Judy Klovstad, Yvonne Peterson and great granddaughter: Paisley Lafontaine.

Celebration of the Life of Geraldine Peterson: Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church – Minot.  A livestream of the service may be viewed by using the link in the website obituary.

Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park – Minot.

Visitation:  Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home – Minot.

Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
