Gerald Marvin "Jerry" Serdahl, 77, Minot died on Thursday, August 18, 2011 in a Bismarck hospital.
Jerry was born on March 23, 1934 in McGregor to Leonard and Ruth (Swenson) Serdahl. He was reared and educated in Minot. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 16, 1952 and served aboard the USS Everglades, USS Robert L. Wilson, USS Mitscher, USS C.S. Sperry and was stationed in California, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and South Carolina specializing in radar, teletype and radio communications. He completed tours of duty in Korea, Cuba and three tours of duty in Vietnam where he was a commander of a PT Swift Boat and received a Purple Heart. He received his honorable discharge as Radio Master Chief E-7 following 22 years of military service. Following his discharge he was employed by Merrill Lynch in Providence Rhode Island as a Wire Room Supervisor and as a bartender in California. He returned to Minot during the mid 1980's.
Jerry especially enjoyed fishing, playing pool and watching NASCAR racing and was a very kind person who never hesitated to lend a helping hand when it was needed.
Jerry is survived by his children: Bruce of Chesapeake, VA, Peter and Jerry of New Bedford, MA and Judy of Wocester, MA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and sisters: Irine Severson of Minot and Delores Gudz of Phoenix and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, son: Kipton in 1982, and siblings: Neal, Donald, Ralph and Lorraine.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church Minot.
Interment will be in Rosehill Memorial Park - Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Minot.
Memorials are preferred.
