Obituary

George H. O'Connor , 76, Minot formerly of Killeen, TX, died Thursday, June 23, 2011, in a Minot hospital.

George was born February 5, 1935, in Grand Coulee, WA to Edgar Samuel Fletcher and Florence M. Morris. After the death of his father, his mother married Arthur F. O\'Connor who adopted George and his brother, Walt.

George enlisted into the US Air Force on September 22, 1952. He was accorded the Korean, National Defense and United Nations Service Medals for honorable service to his country. In July 1961, George continued his military service by transferring to the US Navy serving in various states and countries throughout the world. George was released from active duty following 20 years of service on September 30, 1974.

The military shaped his life. George was united in marriage to Joyce W. Smith on December 20, 1958, in Rushden, England. Their union was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They retired to California and Texas, while maintaining a summer home in Mohall, ND for several years until making a permanent move to Minot in 2005 to be near family.

George was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church and attended in Minot. He was affiliated with the Eagles Aerie in various places.

George took joy in restoring old cars, reading and hunting, although fishing was his main passion. He will be deeply missed by all who shared in his life.

His loving family includes, wife of 52 years, Joyce, Minot; daughters, Sharon (O\'Connor) McDaniel, Mohall, ND and Lisa (O\'Connor) Lindo of Killeen, TX; son, Robert O'Connor of Hutto, TX; (8) Grandchildren, Connie McManus, Heather Moore, Jamie Evenson, Chris Deacon, Sara Oliver, Janet O\'Connor, Shane Lindo, and Jessica O\'Connor; (4) Great-Grandchildren: Myla and Brody Oliver and Bryce and Logan McManus; sisters, Ethel Cook, Tonasket, WA, Patricia Hegerberg, Spokane, WA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

George was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edith Beavers, Modesto, CA, Lucille Guithlein, Lexington Park, MD, Alice Williams, Monterey, CA and brothers Harold Fletcher, Tonasket, WA and Walter O'Connor, Gilmer, Texas.
